Global Industries ties up Olympic Orion

By Upstream staff

Louisiana-based Global Industries has agreed to buy the deep-water construction and dive support vessel Olympic Orion.

The vessel, which will be renamed the Global Orion, will start service for the company this month, Global said in a statement.

The 299-foot vessel is equipped for standard subsea, umbilicals, risers and flowlines (Surf) activities and is also capable of subsea construction and decommissioning as well as diver and remotely operated vehicle support work.

It also features a moon-pool, 150-tonne heave compensated crane, saturation diving system and berths for 62 crew.

Gloval said it had signed a memorandum of understanding to buy the vessel. Terms of the proposed agreement were not disclosed.
