Venezuela floats Argentina LNG plan

By Upstream staff

Venezuelan Oil Minister Rafael Ramirez has put forward a plan to send liquefied natural gas to Caracas from Argentina through a third, undisclosed country.

The initiative is part of several alternatives being discussed by the government in order to address the country’s growing energy crisis a report in Agentinian newspaper La Nacion said.

Ramirez said the agreement could be signed very soon and that it would guarantee the “required triangulation needed” to secure the country’s energy supply.

No further details were given.

"Venezuela already maintains an extraordinary level of interaction and accord for the interchange of combustibles and energy cooperation with Argentina,” Ramirez said.

He said the proposed LNG agreement between the two countries could be part of the development projects of PDVSA.
