Osaka buys more North West Shelf gas

By Upstream staff

Japan's Osaka Gas has sealed a six-year deal - starting in April next year - with Australia's North West Shelf Liquefied Natural Gas venture partners for about 500,000 tonnes of LNG per annum.

The new contract comes after a 20-year contract to buy about 790,000 tonnes of LNG a year from the joint-venture ends March next year.

Osaka Gas had previously entered into a 30-year contract from April 2004 to purchase around 1 million tonnes of LNG per annum from the joint venture.

The six equal partners in the North West Shelf joint-venture are Woodside Petroleum, BHP Billiton, Chevron, BP, Shell and Japan Australia LNG (MiMi).
