Regal spins bit in Ukraine

Regal Petroleum has sealed two rig contracts - one with Saipem and the other with region Ltd - as it pushes ahead with work in Ukraine.

The company said Saipem will suplpy two new Lewco 2000 HP rigs for the Mekhediviska-Golotvschinska and Svyrydivske gas and condensate fields.

Regal plans to drill more than 60 wells at the fields over the next seven to eight years.

The contract has a fixed term of five years, with an option to extend for a further two years. regal expects the rigs to be in Ukraine by the fourth quarter of this year.

Meanwhile, region Ltd will supply a workover rig for the fields.

The rig will be used to carry out a planned workover programme of at least three wells - GOL-1, GOL-2 and MEX-102.

Work will start in July, with each workover taking between one and two months.
