Taking a dip: Inpex is set make waves off Western Australia
Inpex makes waves off Australia
Japan’s Inpex today confirmed it has sealed interests in two new exploration permits off Western Australia as part of the 2007 Australian bidding round.
Inpex has a 20% interest in the WA-410-P and a 26.6064% stake in the WA-411-P, both of which lie in the Browse basin, about 200 kilometres off Western Australia.
The WA-410-P licence covers an area of around 374 square kilometres in water depths ranging from 450 metres and 600 metres. Santos will operate the permit with a 30%, while Chevron holds the remaining 50% interest.
The WA-411-P area covers 2323 square kilometres in water depths ranging from 180 metres to 460 metres. Santos will operate the licence on a 63.6299% stake and Beach Petroleum holds the remaining 9.7637%.
The new permits lie next to the Ichthys field in the WA-285-P, which Inpex discovered in 2000. Inpex, the operator with a 76% stake, and partner Total on 24%, are jointly carrying out preparation works for a liquefied natural gas development.
Inpex holds interests in WA-274-P, WA-281-P, WA-341-P, WA-343-P and WA-344-P in the Browse basin.
