Number crunch: Alaskan Governor Sarah Palin is working hard to ensure TransCanada takes the pipeline deal next month
TransCanada could net $261bn for Alaska
A report released by Alaska Governor Sarah Palin has claimed that TransCanada's plan to build an Alaskan natural gas pipeline would bring in $261 billion in revenues for the state and $147 billion for Alaska’s major energy producers over 25 years.
Palin has already called on legislators to support TransCanada’s $26 billion bid, the only one of five that she accepted for consideration for the pipeline project.
Alaska’s “big three” oil producers on the North Slope, ConocoPhillips, BP and ExxonMobil, oppose the plan..
ConocoPhillips and BP have already teamed up to pursue a competing pipeline plan.
The Alaska legislature will begin considering the various proposals next month.
A special session on TransCanada’s application for a state licence is set to convene in the state capital Juneau on 3 June, Reuters said.
