Garibay probe comes up dry

By Upstream staff

Latin America player Solana Resources said the Topocho-1 well on the Garibay block in Colombia’s Llanos basin has been plugged and abandoned.

Solana said the well, which was testing a structure identified on 3D seismic, had been drilled to total depth of 8920 feet and cased, but that drill stem tests of the Gacheta, Guadalupe and Mirador formations failed to yield oil.

Solana farmed out a 50% stake and operatorship of the Garibay block to CEPSA Colombia in November last year. CEPSA is responsible for 100% of costs on the well, it said.

Solana said it would evaluate its continued involvement in the block.
