Solana rethink at Palmitas-2
By Upstream staff
Latin American player Solana Resources said the Palmitas-2 well on the Guachiria Sur block in Colombia’s Llanos Basin would be suspended for further evaluation after testing of the cased hole failed to yield commercial amounts of oil.
London- and Calgary-listed Solana said initial logging had suggested potential oil pay in the Carbonera C-7 formation, subsequent tests had not borne this out.
It said further testing of the well would need specialised tools that are not available in Colombia at present.
Solana operates the Guachiria Sur block with a 100% stake. Lewis Energy Colombia holds the remaining 30%.
The company said it remained committed to exploration on the Llanos block and would spud the Los Aceites-1 well 3.3 kilometres south-west of the Palmitas-2 site.
