Petrogulf strikes in Indonesia

Wire services

Kuwaiti-based services player Gulf Petroleum Investment (Petrogulf) said crude has been discovered in a block it was helping explore on the Indonesian island of Seram.

It said in a statement on the bourse website that output from a testing well was producing 640 barrels per day and that another well had been spudded to find out more about the size of the field.

The discovery was made around 4 kilometres (2.5 miles) from producing fields in Seram, Reuters reported.

Petrogulf said it had asked the Indonesian government for permission to begin production and export from the new fields which it shares with a Chinese outfit, which controls 51%, Kuwait's state-owned Kufpec, which controls 30%, Petrogulf, which controls 16.5% and an Australian company.
