‘ONGC takes Nelp-7 lion's share’

By Upstream staff

India’s state-run Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) and its joint venture partners are reported to have won most of the oil and gas blocks on offer in the country’s New Exploration Licensing Policy 7 (Nelp-7) round, which closed this week.

ONGC and its consortia have won 20 of the 57 blocks on offer, while first-time bidders BHP Billiton and GVK Power saw their consortium snap up seven deep-water blocks, the Economic Times quoted Indian officials attending the World Petroleum Conference in Madrid this week as saying.

The newspaper reported the officals as saying ONGC operating alone had won four onshore blocks and three deep-water, five shallow-water and seven onshore blocks. A Gujarat State Petroleum Company-led venture including ONGC had won one onshore block.

A consortium of Reliance Industries and UK supermajor BP was reported to have won one block on the Krishna Godivari basin, while India Oil and Cairn India each won one deep-water block.

Adani Welspun and Essar-Noble were said to have each won one shallow-water block. Oil India and Gas Authority of India Limited (Gail) each took one onshore block in the Cauvery basin.

Seven deep-water blocks, two shallow-water blocks and three onshore blocks did not receive any bids, the officials were quoted as saying.
