Leed tops up Eugene Island strike

By Upstream staff

UK explorer Leed Petroleum said a sidetrack of the Eugene Island A-7 well in the US Gulf of Mexico has confirmed 124 feet of hydrocarbon pay in four of the six sands struck in the original bore, boosting the pay struck in all sands of the well by 56 feet to 181 true vertical feet.

The original A-7 discovery was announced on 20 June.

Leed said it was now casing and completing the well as a producer tapping 41 feet of pay in one of the sand zones, with sales flows expected by the end of September.

The company said the jack-up rig Ensco 98 would then move to spud the Eugene Island A-8 well.

Leeds’s Eugene Island blocks 183 and 184 lie about 50 miles (80 kilometres) off Morgan City, Louisiana, in about 80 feet of water.
