Atwood in talks with Jurong for new rig

By Upstream staff

Houston offshore drilling contractor Atwood Oceanics said its wholly-owned subsidiary, Atwood Oceanics Pacific has conditionally exercised an option to build an ultra-deep-water semi-submersible drilling rig to be built with Jurong Shipyard in Singapore.

The rig will be built based on the Friede & Goldman Ex-D Millennium dynamically positioned semi-submersible rig design.

The company said it is negotiating a construction contract for the rig with Jurong.

The rig is to be built for a water depth rating of 10,000 feet.

The construction contract would be subject to certain conditions precedent which need to be satisfied before 30 July.
