Perenco scores three Aussie permits

By Upstream staff

UK-based independent Perenco has bought three exploration permits that lie in the Sorell basin off South East Australia from Chevron.

Perenco now holds a 37.5% interest in permits T/32P and T/35P, operated by Santos with Mitsui as a partner, plus a 50% interest in permit T/36P which is also operated by Santos.

The permits cover a combined area of over 13,000 square kilometres in water depths ranging between 50 metres and 3000 metres.

The joint venture recently shot 410 square kilometres of 3D seismic over licence T/35P and 252 square kilometres of 3D data over licence T/36P. Parenco said the data will be available for interpretation in the third quarter and will determine the forward programme on the permits.

This latest investment marks the London-based outfit’s fifth new country entry in the last year. The deal follows the award of the Sindi-Amedi licence in the Kurdish region of Iraq, two production sharing contracts signed in Belize, the recent investment in Barrett Resources which has interests in two blocks in Peru and the award of five deep-water licences in the Brazilian ninth round.
