Puk Puk purrs for Rift

By Upstream staff

Rift Oil has hit gas earlier than anticipated during drilling of the Puk Puk-1 well in Papua New Guinea.

The well was drilled to 1760 metres before reaching the Alene sand objective.

The level of gas encountered was similar to the Douglas-1 well drilled in the same block, PPL235, by Rift.

Logging results are anticipated at the end the month when Puk Puk-1 has reached its planned total depth of 1900 metres to 2,000metres. Before then no size estimation to the discovery can be made.

Both wells will now be flow tested. Puk Puk-1 will be completed and flow tested by end of July and Douglas-1 by end August.
