PDVSA sends first rig to Bolivia

News wires

State-owned giant PDVSA has sent its first drilling rig to Bolivia to begin exploration of gas and condensates later this month as part of an agreement signed 23 January 2006 between PDVSA and YPFB.

The drill is en route to the Chilean port Arica where it will be transported to the Bolivian city of Santa Cruz.

The electric drill known as PDV08 is made in China and will be operated by Venezuelan technicians to depths of 5000 metres to 8000 metres “in the traditional and non traditional exploration areas of Bolivia,” said a statement from PDVSA.

PDVSA said that it will look for gas and condensates in the Canada, Itaguazerenda and Ovai regions, said EFE news agency.
