On call: the jack-up Global, formerly the Fortuna, is drilling at Hengam
Iranians target ultra-light play
Iran is planning to develop a group of ultra-light oil fields in the Strait of Hormuz and to build a terminal at Qeshm Island to export 100,000 barrels per day.
The development is centred on the Hengam field off Hengam Island, where drilling has started and production is targeted at 16,000 bpd by early 2009, later taking in four blocks near Hormuz Island, Iranian Offshore Oil Company (IOOC) managing director Mahmoud Zirakchianzadeh said.
He added that Hengam, which was initially classed as a gas and condensate field, has very light oil of 42 degrees API, with Hormuz blocks A, B, D and F having a similar quality crude.
Production from the Hormuz fields is projected at about 80,000 bpd, Zirakchianzadeh said.
