Building plans?: at the Darwin LNG plant
ConocoPhillips vows Darwin evolution
US supermajor ConocoPhillips said it was “dedicated”to expanding its Darwin liquefied natural gas project in Australia’s Northern Territory to meet booming energy demand in Asia.
Mark Nelson, new ventures opportunity manager at ConocoPhillips Australia, said the company was seeking further reserves to feed the expansion, but did not say when the plant would be expanded or by how much, Reuters reported.
ConocoPhillips has said it could tap reservoirs including the Woodside-operated Sunshine field or its own Caldita-Barossa fields.
Nelson was speaking at the South East Asian Australia Offshore Conference (SEAAOC) in Darwin.
The plant, at Wickham Point near Darwin, started production at 3.5 million tonnes of LNG per year in 2006, but is certified to produce up to 10 million tonnes.
