Under discussion: Petrobras workers decide whether to strike from 5 August
Union meets over looming Petrobras strike
Workers represented by the United Oilworkers Federation (FUP) will meet on Friday to decide whether to hold a nationwide strike against state-run oil company Petrobras, said an FUP spokesperson.
FUP is threatening to strike from 5 August to force Petrobras to the negotiating table to discuss a profit sharing proposal, wrote BNamericas.
The strike would target production at offshore rigs, refineries and distribution centers.
FUP and Petrobras were due to meet on 23 July, the union said in a statement.
"If we can't reach a deal by Thursday, the union will meet on Friday to decide on a national strike," the spokesperson told BNamericas.
According to the union, Petrobras has proposed a profit-sharing deal equivalent to 13% of the dividends it pays shareholders, below the previous offer of 19%.
A Petrobras spokesperson declined to comment when contacted by BNamericas, saying only the company might publish an official statement on the labor talks later.
Petrobras last week suffered a five-day strike staged by the Sindipetro oil workers union, which was demanding one extra day of pay. FUP joined the strike in solidarity.
The company had to implement a contingency plan to prevent reduced output at Campos basin platforms, which account for more than 80% of the company's total domestic oil production.
