Helping hand: Indonesian Energy & Mineral Resources Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro
Banyu Urip on verge of EPIC
International services companies are preparing to bid for the major turnkey contracts on offer at ExxonMobil's multi-billion dollar Banyu Urip oil project on the Cepu block in Java, Indonesia.
ExxonMobil has shortlisted companies to bid for at least three of the four big engineering, procurement, installation and construction contracts, all of which it wants done on a lumpsum basis.
The EPIC packages cover an onshore oil station designed to handle 165,000 barrels per day of oil, a 2 million-barrel capacity floating storage and offloading vessel, a tower mooring system and 30 kilometres of 20-inch subsea pipeline and onshore infrastructure.
South Korean oil and gas fabricators make up the bulk of the potential bidders for the onshore oil processing facility. Sources said at least six South Korean companies have made the shortlist.
These companies are understood to be Daewoo Engineering&Construction, Hyundai Engineering&Construction and possibly its sister company Hyundai Heavy Industries, LG Engineering, SK Engineering and Samsung Engineering.
Samsung is understood to have teamed up with Indonesian services player Tripatra, while LG has a local partner too, possibly Gunanusa, according to sources.
