Australian engineering giant WorleyParsons is primed to start further work worth C$48 million (US$40 million) at Devon Energy’s Jackfish oil sand project in Canada's northern Alberta.

WorleyParsons said Cord WorleyParsons, the construction division of its Canadian unit, would build prefabrication and piperack and equipment modules for the central processing facility at Jackfish.

The company said work on the modules would start at the company’s Blackfalds facility in Alberta this month, with the contract set to be wrapped up by the third quarter of next year.

WorleyParsons chief executive John Grill said the new contract built on its existing contract for front end engineering design, detailed engineering work and procurement support at jackfish, awarded last month.

Jackfish is a steam-assisted drainage project projected to produce up to 35,000 barrels per day of synthetic crude from Alberta’s tar sands.
