Flowing soon?: gas from the D6 block off India
‘D6 gas flows set for February debut’
India’s Reliance Industries expects to kick off natural gas production from its D6 block I in the Krishna Godavari basin by February, an official in the country’s petroleum ministry was quoted as saying.
The Economic Times of India quoted the unnamed official as saying the company would start supplying the gas to 20 fertiliser plants under a utilisation plan agreed with New Delhi.
The target is in line with prediction by Reliance chairman Mukesh Ambani and Petroleum Minister Murli Deora, who have both marked the first quarter of next year for the start of gas production.
Oil output from the block started in September, but the gas component was delayed from the middle of this year until early next year due to a shortage of deep-water rigs and poor weather conditions in the area, the newspaper said.
A Reliance spokesman reiterated that the company was still on track to start output by the first quarter.
The project is expected to start production at a rate of 40 million cubic metres per day, according to the report.
