Flows coming in: Reliance says it is on track to bring gas from the D6 block by the end of the year
Reliance sees D6 restart by month end
India’s Reliance Industries has reportedly said it expected to restart oil production at the D6 field in the offshore Krishna Godavari basin by the end of the month, while initial gas production from the field is expected by the end of February.
The field was shut in in early December due to an equipment failure. The field started oil production in September last year.
"In our assessment, crude oil productions should start in next 15 to 20 days," VK Sibal, India's hydrocarbons director general told reporters on sidelines of a conference in India. "You can say it will start flowing by month end," he said, according to a report by the Times of India.
The field was producing between 10,000 and 12,000 barrels of oil per day prior to the shutdown.
Meanwhile, PMS Prasad, Reliance’s chief executive of oil and gas has written to the Petroleum Ministry to confirm that the company was set to tie in gas production by the end of next month, the Press Trust of India reported.
Prasad said the date was subject to weather and sea conditions.
Petroleum Ministry officials had asked Reliance to state its start-up target date in writing.
India’s power sector and fertiliser plants are short of gas. However, delivery of the gas may be delayed by an ongoing court case over who is entitled to buy the gas.
