New terminal: Tokyo Gas plans new LNG terminal
Tokyo Gas eyes new LNG terminal
Tokyo Gas, Japan's biggest natural gas utility, is looking to build a new liquefied natural gas receiving terminal in Hitachi, northeast of Tokyo by 2017-18 to meet projected growth from the industrial sector.
A major provider of natural gas to Tokyo and the surrounding regions, Tokyo Gas sees a steady shift in the industrial sector to environment-friendly natural gas from coal or fuel oil.
The company also said it would start operations of a fourth LNG tank at an LNG receiving terminal in Yokohama in the year starting April 2013.
Its industrial gas sales have risen an average 7% per year since the 2003/04 business year, and such sales have been gradually rising to account for 40% of all gas sales in the past two business years.
Japan is the world's top consumer of LNG.
