Kuwait names new oil minister
Opec member Kuwait has appointed former health minister Sheikh Ahmad al-Abdullah al-Sabah as the Gulf Arab state's new oil minister, according to reports.
Sheikh Ahmad, a member of the ruling family, will be Kuwait's first permanent oil minister since Mohammad al-Olaim, who resigned in November along with the rest of the government, a Reuters report said.
Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammad al-Salem al-Sabah had been acting oil minister since a new Cabinet was unveiled last month.
Reuters cited a government source and al-Rai TV as announcing Sheikh Ahmad's appointment.
In March 2007, the Cabinet resigned to avoid a no confidence vote against Sheikh Ahmad when he was a health minister.
