Na Sunan probe confirms deeper lode
Australian producer Carnarvon Petroleum said the NSE-E2 appraisal well in Thailand’s Phetchabun basin had confirmed the presence of oil in an underlying volcanic reservoir after failing to strike its main objective.
The well, on the Na Sunan East Central B location, was testing an oil pool struck by the NSE-E1 well. It failed to find the main Na Sunan East reservoir but struck about 15 barrels of oil with no water from an underlying interval where the original well found oil staining.
Carnarvon said the oil was non-commercial at the drill site, the interval would be evaluated in further drilling.
The deeper zone is interpreted as being in a separate block to the main Na Sunan East interval.
Canada-based Pan-Orient Energy operates the Na Sunan project with a 60% stake on behalf of Carnarvon, which holds the remaining 40%.
