Clough hauls in Montara installation gig
Clough has been awarded a A$116 million ($74.9 million) contract by Thailand's PTT Exploration & Production (PTTEP) to complete the offshore installation work at the Montara oil project off Western Australia that was not finished by Saipem.
The project incorporates the Montara, Swift and Skua fields in 80 metres of water in blocks AC/L7 and AC/L8.
The workscope is for the transportation and installation of the 750-tonne wellhead platform deck, the 285-tonne mooring buoy with nine associated mooring legs, 26 kilometres of infield pipelines, and the 100-tonne Swift subsea manifold.
Saipem was supposed to install all these facilities but completed the jacket and some of the pipelines before departing to the Timor Sea for Eni's Blacktip project. It is understood the terms and conditions in Saipem's contract for Montara enabled it to exit without penalty.
Clough’s chief executive John Smith said: “This is a project well suited to the capabilities of our upgraded Java Constructor and we are delighted to be returning to Australian waters so soon after her extensive upgrade."
The installation is due to start at the end of the second quarter of 2009, and will keep the Java Constructor busy for around four months.
PTTEP recently took over ownership of the Montara project following its acqusition of Coogee Resources for $170 million in cash.
