Talisman plugs PL 299 wildcat
Talisman Energy has hit hydrocarbons with wildcat well 2/1-13S, drilled in production licence 299, but has plugged and abandoned the probe.
The well, which has been permanently plugged and abandoned, hit hydrocarbons in Middle Jurassic age sandstone with poor reservoir quality. However, the reservoir in the Triassic section is filled with water.
The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate said in a statement that the well was not formation-tested, but has provided important information about the extent and quality of the Jurassic and Triassic reservoir rocks.
The well, which was drilled 13 kilometres south of the Gyda field in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea, also provided valuable information about pressure and temperature conditions in the area around the Gyda field.
The well was drilled to 4317 metres and concluded in Triassic rocks.
It was the first exploration well in PL 299, which was awarded in APA 2003. Talisman operates the licence with a 60% stake, with Denmark's Dong holds the remainder.
