New licences: off Norway for StatoilHydro
StatoilHydro tops Norway awards
StatoilHydro has been awarded interests in seven new production licences with a total of five new operatorships in Norway’s 20th licensing round, putting the company in lead position for number of awards received in the round.
Three of the awards, PL532 (operator) PL534 and PL536 (operator) are in the Barents Sea.
The remaining four, PL318C (operator), PL521 (operator) PL524 (operator), and PL527, are in the Norwegian Sea.
“The large number of companies awarded interests in new licences shows that the industry takes a positive view of the Norwegian continental shelf,” said Tove Stuhr Sjoblom, senior vice president for exploration on the NCS.
“Nevertheless, the chances of making major discoveries are limited and pressure is rising to open new areas.
The new licences lie in different geological provinces and their resource potential could form the basis for stand-alone developments, said StatoilHydro in a statement.
