Ion Geophysical: Mexico seismic gigs
Ion bags Mexican treble
Ion Geophysical has bagged a trio of jobs with Mexican oilfield services player Compania Mexicana de Exploraciones (Comesa).
The jobs will see Ion deploy an 8000 station FireFly(R) system on three projects.
The work covers survey design, data processing and reservoir interpretation, Ion said in a statement.
Comesa is majority owned by Mexican giant Pemex. Pemex plans to spend to spend about $2 billion on exploration work this year, company executive Antonio Escalera said in a statement.
Escalera said that about 20% is earmarked for seismic work.
Comesa managing director Adan Oviedo said: “These three projects will be undertaken in a variety of environments ranging from swampy areas to agriculturally intensive regions that will let us test the productivity advantages of a cableless seismic recording system.”
The three full-wave projects are designed to bolster Mexico’s hydrocarbon resource base.
