Pemex marks three discoveries this year
Mexican state-owned Pemex E&P subsidiary PEP recorded three discovery wells during the first quarter of the year, all of which are producing super light crude.
Pemex drilled the Bricol-1 and Cupache-1 wells at its Cinco Presidentes project in the southern marine basin, according to Pemex's quarterly investors report.
The wells showed initial production of 5200 barrels per day and 1300 bpd, respectively, according to the report.
The third, and largest, discovery was in the company's Juliva project, where it drilled the Bajilum-1 well. The well had initial production of 7200 bpd.
Pemex acquired 8638 kilometre of 2D seismic data in the first quarter, up from just 711 kilometre year-on-year, according to the report.
The vast increase was due to works in the Golfo de Mexico B project in the southern and eastern deep waters of the Gulf of Mexico, said a Business News Americas report.
Total 3D seismic data acquired in the three-month period was 3858 square kilometres, up 7.07% year-on-year.
The increase in Pemex's 3D seismic works was attributed to the Gulf of Mexico Sur deep-water project and development in the Chicontepec field, which is in Puebla and Veracruz states.
