Mexico sights: Reflex Marine executive David Brittan and Mexican President Felipe Calderon
Reflex Marine sets sights on Mexico
UK marine transfer player Reflex Marine hopes to expand its business in Mexico and is currently in talks with Pemex for the use of their Frog crew transfer devices.
Recent changes in Mexico energy laws have prompted an increase in opportunities for foreign companies to work in the Latin American country.
Reflex Marine hopes to provide Pemex with its Frog crew transfer device to aid in the transfer of personnel from vessels to offshore rigs.
Pemex currently transfers about 600 workers everyday to offshore rigs.
Reflex Marine executive David Brittan recently met with Mexican President Felipe Calderon and Minister of Energy Georgina Kessel at an oil and gas exhibition in Aberdeen in March.
Marketing executive for Reflex Marine James Strong told UpstreamOnline the company hopes to be able to arrange offshore field trials for Pemex of the two, six-passenger Frog units.
These units have already been shipped to Mexico, Strong said.
Reflex Marine’s distributors have already demonstrated the units capabilities onshore in Ciudad del Carmen.
Strong added that the Frog design offers protection to passengers over traditional methods of crane transfer.
The company hopes their Frog units will begin operations in Mexico this year.
Strong did not give a more specific time frame.
