Keppel delivers Ensco 8501

Singapore-based yard Keppel Fels has delivered the Ensco 8501, the second of seven Ensco 8500 series ultra-deep-water semi-submersibles it is building for Ensco.

Following arrival and sea trials in the Gulf of Mexico, the Ensco 8501 is contracted for operations for Nexen and Noble Energy to second quarter 2013.

The Ensco 8500 series of ultra-deepwater rigs are capable of drilling in 8500 feet of water, and may be further upgraded to 10,000 feet water-depth capability.

They also have a drilling depth of 35,000 feet and can accommodate up to 150 workers.
