Lamu basin: seismic sweep planned to uncover oil potential off Kenya.
Bids under way for Kenyan seismic
Origin Energy is evaluating the bids for a planned 3D seismic shoot in Licence Area L8 in the Lamu basin off Kenya.
The Australia-listed operator is seeking government approval for a farm-in partner to Licence Area L8 prior to proceeding with the survey.
Subject to a successful farm-in, the 3D seismic sweep is scheduled for July to November and is expected to cost $10 million including processing and interpretation.
The survey will target the Mbawa prospect, now estimated to contain P10 recoverable volumes of 3.6 billion barrels of oil, or up to 1.5 billion barrels of oil plus a gas cap of 400 billion cubic feet, according to Origin’s partner for licence area, Pancontinental Oil & Gas.
An alternative estimate indicates P10 potential for 11 trillion cubic feet of recoverable gas, Pancontinental said in a statement.
Origin Energy holds 75% interest in Licence Area L8. Partners are: Pancontinental (10%) and Afrex (15%).
