Reassurance: from ian's Opec governor Mohammad Ali Khatibi
Iran oil flows '100% secure'
Iran's oil output and exports were unaffected by the wave of protests that have swept the country since Friday's presidential poll, the country's Opec governor said today.
"The oil industry is 100% secure," Mohammad Ali Khatibi told Reuters. "There is no affect on production, exports or refining."
Oil traders and shipbrokers also told Reuters there had been no impact to date on oil exports.
The biggest street protests since the revolution in 1979 have followed the election on Friday. In the run up to the revolution 30 years ago, strikes and protests paralysed oil exports and sent a shock through global oil markets.
Iran is the world's fifth-largest oil exporter, shipping around 2.1 million barrels per day - about 4.5% of global supply. The country pumps a total of around 3.8 million bpd, refining what it does not export for domestic consumption.
Meanwhile, Iran has cut gas exports to neighbouring Turkey for 96 hours to repair the pipeline network, the Mehr News Agency reported.
Mahmoud Loghmani, an official of Iran's gas transfer company, told the news agency some cracks had been found on pipeline connections.
"Having noticed a few cracks using radiography technique at the welding spots on the connections at Bazargan sub-station and with the aim of preventing additional cracks ... the flow of gas to that country was cut on Monday," he said.
The Turkish side had been informed, he added.
