Overturned: Peruvian prime minister Yehude Simon and Amazon native leaders
Amazon land laws overturned
Peru’s Congress today overturned two laws that sought to award more concessions to oil companies and loggers after protests left at least 34 dead earlier this month.
The 120-member Congress voted 82-12 to repeal the laws in a bid to end protests that have blocked roads and oil and natural gas installations since early April, a Bloomberg report said.
