Job cuts: Schlumberger
Schlumberger swings jobs axes again
Oilfield services giant Schlumberger has swung the axe once again, dismissing around 100 employees in the Houston area in another round of job layoffs completed this week.
“We did have some layoffs this week,” Schlumberger spokesman Stephen Harris confirmed.
Most of the jobs lost were in the Houston area.
Schlumberger released a statement to Upstream explaining the decision to reduce its workforce “at certain centers in North America” was in response to “decreased drilling activity worldwide resulting in less demand for oilfield services”.
Schlumberger first started letting go of employees after it disclosed in January that it would let go of over 4000 employees – about five percent of its global workforce, which then stood at more than 87,000 people in some 80 countries.
Those initial job cuts were also contained within North America due to the sharp decline in gas drilling.
