Onshore play: Angola is returning to onshore exploration
Sonangol readies Cabinda push
Angola plans to start onshore exploration work at Cabinda next month, a Sonangol executive told local media.
Ernesto Taia, head of research and production at state-owned Sonangol told Radio Nacional de Angola that Sonangol will first carry out seismic studies in the Necuto and Buco Zau regions.
Taia did not provide details regarding Angola's estimated onshore oil reserves, a Reuters report said.
Most of Angola's oil comes from offshore wells along the coast of Cabinda. Sonangol used to pump some of Angola's oil from onshore fields but the country's almost three-decade long civil war forced it to halt production.
The end of the war in 2002 has prompted Angola to return to onshore exploration.
