Mapped out: the Seychelles
Infoterra maps out Seychelles oil slicks
Geographic services company Infoterra has completed an oil slick mapping and interpretation project off the Seychelles ahead of the Indian Ocean nation's offshore licensing round, pencilled in for later in the year.
Infoterra said the job - which covered 500,000 square kilometres - was the the largest slick mapping project carried out off the Seychelles.
The work was carried out together with the country's state-run oil outfit Seypec in April and May and ranked all oil slicks as probable natural seepage or man-made pollution.
"Seeps data is valuable information prior to any exploration, especially in this relatively unexplored region,” Patrick Joseph, Sepec's exploration manager said.
“We will use this data to support the planning of seismic projects and subsequent geochemical programmes."
