Turkmenistan: Petronas' Block 1 gas project due ot produce first outputs in 2010.
Petronas lines up Turkmen schedule
Petronas Carigali is expected to kick-start installation work in its Block 1 gas development in the Turkmen sector of the Caspian Sea from early 2010.
The production facilities for the 2010 installation campaign include a drilling platform and a wellhead platform and offshore pipelines of varying sizes totaling some 280 kilometres long, according to a source close to the development.
Installation of the offshore pipelines will take place in up to 80 metres of water and is expected to run from February through December 2010.
Petronas’ subsidiary, Malaysia Marine and Heavy Engineering (MMHE) has awarded offshore contractor, Sigur Ros, a letter of intent to supply the crew and equipment required for the pipelay work.
The pipelines will be installed by Bumi Armada’s new derrick lay barge now under construction at Keppel Shipyard in Singapore.
The newbuild is scheduled to arrive at a shipyard Caspian Sea by November to undergo a final integration. The derrick lay barge will begin an eight-year bareboat charter with Petronas on its delivery from the shipyard.
First gas from the first phase of the Block 1 gas development is targeted for the third quarter of 2010. Production is expected to reach 500 million cubic feet per day.
Petronas operates the project with a 100% interest.
