Drilling in Kurdistan: oil traces detected in Gulf Keystone's wildcat.
Kurdistan wildcat scents oil
London listed Gulf Keystone Petroleum has detected oil in the Shaikan-1 exploration well drilled in the Shaikan Block in the Kurdistan region of northern Iraq.
Shaikan-1 hit "lighter, live oil shows" when drilled to over 1350 metres, Gulf said in a statement.
The well was spudded on 27 April and is expected to reach the planned total depth of 3000 metres to 3500 metres by September.
