All steamed up: Chevron looks begins first injections.
Chevron steams up the Neutral Zone
US supermajor Chevron has begun its first steam injection at a steam flood project in the Wafra Field heavy-oil carbonate reservoir in the onshore neutral zone between Saudi Arabia and Kuwait (PNZ).
If the $340 million project is successful, Chevron may use steam flooding in the First Eocene reservoir over the full field.
“Full-field deployment of steam flood technology in the PNZ would significantly increase recovery of crude oil reserves, confirm the technology’s potential applicability in other carbonate oil fields and build on Chevron’s steam flood capabilities that date back five decades,” Chevron executive George Kirkland said.
This is the third steam flooding test Chevron has carried out in the PNZ.
