Apico set to spud Phu Kheng-1
US independent Apico will begin drilling over the next few days the Phu Kheng-1 exploration well, which is designed to test a one trillion cubic feet gas prospect in licence L27/43 onshore north-eastern Thailand.
Phu Kheng is a very large anticline, targeting gas in Jurassic and Triassic age sandstones, according to partner, UK-based Salamander Energy.
As earlier reported on Upstream , the Phu Kheng-1 probe, which will be drilled updip of the successful 2008 Dong Mun 3 gas appraisal, is targeting a new play in the Khorat Plateau basin.
After completing Phu Keng-1, the land rig will be mobilised to drill the Si That-3 appraisal well in the neighbouring block, L13/48.
