Queensland: Australian state hailed for coalbed methane promise.
Bowen pair hailed for CBM promise
The first coalbed methane reserves in the Tilbrook and Paranui pilots of the Queensland’s Bowen basin have been certified to be over 400 petajoules (PJ), according to Australia’s Westside Corporation.
Citing an independent assessment by MHA Petroleum Consultants, Westside said its 50% share of proved, probable and possible CBM reserves in the two pilots amounts to 211 PJ - 76 PJ in ATP688P permit Tilbrook and another 135 PJ in ATP769P permit Paranui.
The reserve estimate for Paranui pilot confirms its expectations of greater gas reserves in the ATP769P permit.
Higher quantities gas in place could be accessed through drilling to depths greater than 1000 metres, Westside said in a statement.
WestSide will continue working on its A$18 million ($? Million) drilling programme. Production testing will be undertaken on the first dual-lateral horizontal well at the Tilbrook pilot. The well is aimed at converting some of the existing 3P reserves into Proved and Probable (2P) reserves during the fourth-quarter of 2009.
