Binned: newbuild order by Norways GC Reiber
GC Reiber scraps newbuild 7037
Norwegian shipowner GC Reiber said today it has cancelled the order for newbuild 7037 due to ‘significant delays’.
The vessel was ordered in May last year by Polar Marine I, a 51:49 joint venture between GC Rieber and Otto Marine.
“The cancellation, which has been put forward by Polar Marine I in accordance with the contractual terms, is disputed,” said GC Reiber in a statement.
“Polar Marine I is confident that the contract is rightfully cancelled”
The interim payment made by GC Rieber Shipping is covered by a refund guarantee, and thus the cancellation will have no negative financial impact for GC Rieber Shipping added the company.
GC Rieber Shipping owns and operates six multi-functional special purpose vessels, and four on order, for markets within offshore subsea and ice research and support, according to its website.
GC Reiber were not immediately available for comment.
