Chevron turns on Mafumeira Norte taps
US supermajor Chevron has flowed first oil from the Mafumeira Norte development, in Block O off Angola, bringing the field on stream ahead of schedule.
Mafumeira Norte, which lies in 49 metres of water about 24 kilometres off Angola, is the first phase development of the Mafumeira field, Area A of Block 0.
The field is being developed via 14 wells to the existing Kungulo water injection platform and is expected to reach maximum total production of 30,000 barrels of oil per day and 30 million cubic feet per day of natural gas in 2011.
Chevron has a 39.2% stake and is the operator of the Block 0 contractor group, via the through its Cabinda Gulf Oil Company subsidiary. Its partners include Sonangol (41%), Total (10%) and Eni (9.8%).
Chevron spokesman Scott Walker declined to put a price tag on the development.
