The Kerkouane permit: lies north-east of Tunisia
AuDax seeks rig for Sambuca probe
Australia’s AuDax Resources is on the hunt for a semi-submersible rig to drill the Sambuca prospect in the Mediterranean Sea and has sent out invitations to tender for the deal to fifteen drilling contractors this week.
The Sambuca prospect lies in two contiguous exploration permits, in G.R15.PU, off the island of Pantelleria in Italian waters and in the Kerkouane permit off north-east Tunisia.
The Sambuca prospect appears to be one of the largest undrilled structures in the Mediterranean Sea with a total of proved plus probable unrisked recoverable resource potential of 270 million barrels of oil equivalent, AuDax said.
The outfit added that the total proved plus probable unrisked recoverable resource of the mapped prospects in both permits could exceed one billion barrels of oil equivalent.
Subject to availability of a suitable rig it is expected to drill the Sambuca well in the first or second quarter of next year.
