Clough's pipelayer Java Constructor: vessel continues work on Montara project despite oil spill.
Pipelay continues at Montara
Pipelay operations at the Montara development, in the Timor Sea off Australia, is continuing, despite an oil and gas leak following a blow-out at Seadrill’s jack-up West Atlas.
More than 60 members of the Australian Manufacturing Workers Union are continuing their work laying pipe for PTTEP following assurances from the operator, according to a report on the Australian newspaper.
The work is being carried out about 500 metres from the rig.
As earlier reported, PTTEP has secured Seadrill’s jack-up West Triton, a sister rig of West Atlas, to drill a relief well and pour mud to stop the leak.
The well will take about four weeks to drill.
West Triton will be towed by two barges to a location about two kilometres from the West Atlas.
PTTEP has advised the well could take about two months to plug, according to a Reuters report.
Montara oil project is due to start production later this year.
