Clough's pipelayer: Java Constructor.
Java Constructor leaves Montara
Clough’s pipelaying vessel the Java Constructor has left Montara oilfield and is en route to the Truscott air base in the Kimberley region of Western Australia, a spokesman from Australia’s National Offshore Petroleum Safety Authority (NOPSA) said.
NOPSA was responding to Upstream’s enquiry about the pipelay operations at Montara project.
A report this morning said Thai operator PTTEP is continuing with pipelay work in the vicinity despite the oil and gas leak from Seadrill’s jack-up West Atlas.
PTTEP has denied work is still ongoing in the field. In a statement to WA Today, the company said: “All construction activities at the Montara site ceased on Friday and remain shut down at this time."
The operator claimed the main focus now is to stem the leak.
Around 69 crew members were evacuated from West Atlas and transported away from the spill location aboard Java Constructor last Friday. PTTEP has secured Seadrill's jack-up West Triton as replacement for its sister rig to drill wells in Montara oil project.
