Digging up reserves in Rajasthan: Cairn India starts up one of India's largest oilfields.
Cairn turns on Mangala taps
Cairn India has began production at its Mangala oil field in the Rajasthan block over the weekend.
The giant oil block will produce about 20% of India’s total current crude outputs and shave 7% of the country’s import bill, the Reuters reported citing Oil Minister Murli Deora.
Plateau production from Mangala is expected to reach 125,000 bpd in the first half of 2010, and peak production of 175,000 bpd is expected to start in 2011 from the three fields, according to Reuters.
Cairn India holds a 70% stake in the RJ-ON-90/1 block in western India, while state-run explorer Oil & Natural Gas Corporation holds the balance.
