Russia opens door to China
The Russian government, led by Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, has finally determined its policy in response to Chinese efforts to expand its business interests in the country.
Russia has ordered the state-¿controlled gas monopoly Gazprom to prepare for the supply of ¿billions of cubic metres of gas to China.
According to a framework agreement signed between Gazprom and China National ¿ Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), the Russian gas giant will supply 70 billion cubic metres of gas per annum to China through two pipelines, one to the west and one to the east of the country.
